Dorota Echavarry dances as Maria Piazza sings Henri DuParc’s first song, “Chanson Triste” written in 1868. “ Chanson Triste” was created for the summer 2006 interdisciplinary stage production of “The Love Within”. Dorota and Edwin Echavarry spent a beautiful sunny summer’s day shooting in various locations both at Morning Star Centre and the gardens of Maria Piazza and Wanda Underwood in Wilno, Ontario. We thank Maria Piazza for inspiring the creation of this video and for taking some of the digital stills used in “Chanson Triste”. In the editing room Edwin worked to give each section of Chanson Triste its correct tempo, rhythm and form. Wanda Underwood’s very helpful suggestions in the final editing process were greatly appreciated. This collaborative effort coupled with the sepia colouring and digital stills produce the romantic flavour and vintage atmosphere of this sad, sensitive, dramatic and lyrical piece of music. This video was included in the first part of “The Love Within”.
